Woodlawn Cemetery, established in 1863, is a beautiful 400-acre area featuring a gorgeous collection of various foliage, including weeping willows, the pendant silver linden and the European-cut leaf beech. It is the final resting place for a vast array of famous personages, including writer Herman Melville, actress Geraldine Fitzgerald and musician Duke Ellington. The cemetery is located adjacent to the scenic Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
